The click and open rates for emails are highest on Sundays and Fridays. The rates are lowest for the middle of the week.

eROI, an email service firm has studied the rate of success of email marketing in a study, “Q3 2005 Email Statistics”

Jeff Mills, eROI e-mail analyst, said, “We decided to take a look at day of the week statistics by list size, and found that was beneficial in determining campaign value”. [source]

The findings of the study include:

People open and click on emails related to marketing mostly on Sundays and Fridays.

The open rate for Sunday is 30.8% and click rate 7.2%
For Wednesday the open rate is 22.8% and click rate is 3.5%

Comparing this with list size eROI has analyzed the data for the following:

“micro mailers” with lists under 5,000,
“small mailers” with lists of 5,000 to 24,999
“midsize mailers” with lists of 25,000 to 99,999
“large mailers” with lists over 100,000

The size of the mailing lists also influences the success rate. According to the eROI analysts the bigger the list, the less the success rate will be.

The recommendation of eROI report:

Remove or separate individuals who are not reading the mails. Send them mails less frequently. Check if it affects the overall success rate of the email campaign.
