A new phishing attack promises $400 to those in U. S. using Google search engine. The phishing scam redirects the user to a spoofed copy of Google’s front page and asks for credit card details.


A new phishing attack promises $400 to those in U.S. who use Google search engine. The phishing scam redirects the user to a spoofed copy of Google’s front page and asks for credit card details.

Websense Security Labs has announced that it has received reports of this phishing attack.

“Users are redirected to a spoofed copy of Google’s front page with a large message claiming “You WON $400.00 !!!”. Users are presented with instructions for collecting their prize money”. [source]

The announcement at the phishing site says, “You have been marked as the 21,191,298,02 Google visitor and you have been awarded the prize of $400.00, to claim your money click here”.

Those who click there are directed to another page which says, “Transfer your $400.00 to your credit card”. For transfering the money they are asked to supply their credit card details.

After the details are filled in, the users are redirected to the Google website.
