50% of teens have used search to find clothing, accessories, shoes and jewelry. They prefer search engines over television ads and fashion websites, according to a survey by Yahoo.

Diane Rinaldo, director of the retail category for Yahoo Search Marketing, said: “Now more than ever, retailers looking to reach and influence teens outside of their stores need to effectively incorporate search into their overall marketing strategies”. [source]

Yahoo conducted a survey of 15 to 19 year old teens.

Other findings of the study include:

61% of the teens used Yahoo search to access fashion information online.

68% used the web to access information on fashion trends and as a way to learn about unfamiliar labels.

According to Rinaldo, “Online campaigns are not just about purchasing anymore. Brand awareness, communication and information should also be considered important goals.” [source]

The teens buy offline as they do not have credit card facilities. But they use the web to search and identify what they want to purchase.
