Bill Myers’ ‘Tip of the Week’:

Bill Myers Tip of the Week – November 6, 2010

For a long time, one of my favorite web sites was ‘who would buy that?’, a site that showcased strange products people were selling on eBay.

Just a quick scan of the ‘who would buy that’ site would reveal some pretty weird items being offered for sale.

And surprisingly, a lot of those weird items were being bought.

Unfortunately, the ‘who would buy that?’ site was abandoned four years ago and hasn’t been updated since.

But that hasn’t stopped me from looking for weird items that sell well on eBay.

For example, this past week I found an eBayer who is successfully selling US two dollar bills for $3.50 – and he sells 500 at a time, earning up to $1,500 profit on each sale.

What’s strange about this is you can go to your local bank and buy two dollar bills for just two dollars each. And that makes you wonder why would anyone pay a 70% premium for them on eBay.

I’m sure the seller, who’s eBay history suggests he’s sold enough to earn him well over $10,000 in profits, doesn’t care why people are buying them. He’s just happy they are.

The point is, people do purchase things you wouldn’t expect them to, and you can often find examples of this at eBay.

I use the free http://www.hotlister.com to find the top sellers in each eBay category, and that’s how I found the guy selling two dollar bills.

Next time you’re stumped for a product idea, try using http://www.hotlister.com to search for top sellers in eBay categories like books, business, collectibles, crafts, gift cards & coupons and others.

You might be surprised what others are buying, and you might even get an idea for something you could sell.
