‘How Info Marketing Business Mixes with Pleasure’ by James Burt

James Burt’s latest ‘e-Wealth Daily’ article:
Info marketers can mix work and pleasure in a lot of ways, but what is key is that you know what to do in each scenario. Here are some common business/social functions and what to do
when you encounter them:
— The Lunch Date: You get in contact with another professional. It could be a designer, marketer, or info source — it doesn’t matter. You see potential for a partnership of services, but are not sure if they are right for you and your business. You have questions and concerns, but are unsure on how to broach these issues. Why not go to lunch? While it sounds a bit cliche, a lunch date is still one of the best ways to meet and get to know someone who you think is a valuable addition to your business. Pick a good, reputable (budget-friendly) spot to get a light lunch and discuss business. If your appetite is lighter, a cafe with good coffee and snacks is a
perfect substitute.
— The Night-Out Meeting: I added this as just a different situation than the lunch date. Sometimes you meet a potential colleague once and hit it off. You wind up going for a night out
of big dinners and often copious drinks well into the night hours. This can be fun and, if nothing else, you stand to have a good time with someone just like you. But I warn pros ahead of time about this — go easy on the partying, drinking, and what you say, and remember the important reason you are there: to discuss business. Nights out are great, but with discretion.
— The Convention or Info Source Schmooze: This one can be the most fun. If you wind up hearing about a convention related to your info source or learn of a business that is new and could be involved in your info marketing business, go check them out. The classic story of these types of events involves getting a wad of business cards at the convention’s finale of people who
you can keep in contact with or invites to others’ areas of work to discuss business matters. Checking out an info source can be great, too — a lot of info marketers who do info products on
consumer goods, food, drinks, and even sports gear get free samples that they can write about in their information products.
Really…how cool is that?
— Vacation Networking: If you go on holiday, it’s expected you are going to relax, shut your home operations down, and remove yourself from your work. This is all good, but you can
still be aware of potential business connections while you are on the beach, on a canoe trip, or exploring a remote region. You might come into contact with someone who you can partner up with or a business that is relatively unknown, but a possible asset in association with your information marketing business. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears perked up while you are on holiday. You never know what you might encounter on a good trip that can lead to even better success.
Some people say mixing business with pleasure is completely impossible. You are either partying away or working your tail off with sharp-eyed focus. There is no in between. Maybe for
them this is true, but for information marketers it doesn’t have to be so. As long as you love your information source and what you do for a living, you can have fun and enjoy success at the
same time.
Good luck!
