James Burt’s latest ‘e-Wealth Daily’ article:
As an entrepreneur, you have to keep a close eye on the business pages, what social or political changes affect your business, and what opportunities are coming your way. You
have to keep up with the news.
But keeping up with the news can help both you and your information marketing business. You can watch what trends could affect your business and even get ideas to make it better.
Keeping current is getting news and info right from the freshest sources and it’s good to be ready to utilize that info to your advantage.
Obviously there are loads of news sources out there — online, in the magazine racks, in the library. But you really don’t need that many. Here are some of the ones I recommend that every
info marketer have:
— Newspapers: This one is a given. Maybe when you were younger, you rushed to get your morning paper to check the baseball stats or read the comics. But now the newspaper
serves a bigger role in your life. These thickly bound pieces of ink and newsprint carry the information and commentary in multiple sections that keep us informed. There are loads of
areas you can use the newspaper in your information marketing business: news articles for ideas, business stats for figures, editorials to help you improve your writing skills or stir the
mental grey matter. The list goes on and on. I suggest getting two of the best local newspapers in your area on a regular basis. Take time to read and analyze them to use them within your information marketing business.
— Newsfeeds: People thought the ‘Net would kill newspapers. It didn’t, but it did change how we got our news. No doubt you are online now reading this message. Beforehand, however,
you possibly checked the news on your homepage. With the advent of the Internet, news came out as quickly as it was created. I always recommend to info marketers and all
entrepreneurs out there to get a good newsfeed from a reliable news source. While you work at your home office, check it regularly. New information, hot off the presses of a news
service, is probably the most valuable to your info marketing clients and they will only be too glad to compensate you to get it.
— Related Trade Magazines: The Internet was supposed to kill off magazines, too, but they are still being made. While some magazines have incorporated the Internet as part of their basic
resources, they are smart of enough to only include part of the article and to then get you to go to the rack to pay for the latest issue. This is life and again not necessarily a bad thing.
Business pros still get their regular copies of “The Economist” and die-hard sports fans wait eagerly for the new copy of “Sports Illustrated.” These rags have the newest info and the
deepest insight into their ascribed topic. Therefore, it’s probably in the info marketer’s best interest to get a regular subscription to one or two of the best trade magazines related to his or her info marketing business. They will keep you up to speed and up-to-date on the most current info that can be used in your business.
— Blogs and Social Networks: You’d be surprised what word of mouth can do, especially these days. Celebrities have their words and quotes out to the gossip sites faster than they can say
“Boo.” Cell phones and meeting spots help deliver person-to-person news at light speed. With that in mind, you should keep up with both. Search the Internet frequently and note all
relevant sites and blogs, no matter what their size or quality is. There could be stuff in there that is of use to you. As well, don’t be a hermit. Keep in touch with others just like you and don’t be afraid to get together to see what both you and they know. This networking can help everyone keep up to speed on the latest news and benefit everyone’s success all around.
Keeping current is tough. You really have to block off time to read all of the news, both good and bad. But it is helpful. Info marketers can always benefit from keeping up with the newest events in the world around them.
