WHAT’S YOUR STORY? LET ME HELP YOUU WITH IT

Many speakers, writers and marketers have asked me about how one creates a superb signature story. I now have a solution for you.

I am setting up a new service where I will work with you over the telephone on your story. We will meet twice for forty five minutes each time. I will send you a form to guide you in creating your story before the first meeting to give us a start.

By the end of the second “story session” you will have your own unique signature story to use and WOW them in your presentations – whether spoken or written.

(1) Tips from an Often Requested Special Report

On my information website, http://www.creativekeys.net, I include a site SEARCH box. This lets me know weekly exactly what you, my visitor, is looking for on this website.

One of the keywords often searched is being the emcee. Therefore, I have written a Special Report on “Your Role as an Emcee” and am including a couple of tips from it.

Wait for the Presenter to Take His or Her Position on the Platform. Greet him or her with a warm handshake and start clapping. This is the technique I learned in Toastmasters. It raises everyone’s energy – both the audience’s and the speaker’s – and says that we are all glad to be here.

Smooth Transitions Are a Necessity. A proficient emcee realizes the importance of transitions and handles them with ease. When there are two or more speakers and/or other parts included in the program, the emcee must work to keep the mood on an even keel.

For example, if the first speaker ended his or her presentation on a moving and emotional note, the emcee needs to bring the audience back to a neutral frame of mind before the next presenter, otherwise the next speaker will start at a disadvantage. Transitions don’t need to be lengthy. They can consist of a positive comment, a quote (have many ready), a short story that relates, or if the program is long, a chance for everyone to stand up and stretch.

(2) Two Ways to Share Our Thanks for Posterity

I know that I have mentioned these gems before, but since we in the States are giving thanks this week, I thought you might like to take part in the two projects.

This I Believe is an exciting national project that invites you to write about the core beliefs that guide your daily life. NPR (National Public Radio) will air these personal statements from listeners each Monday. By inviting Americans from all walks of life to participate, series producers Dan Gediman and Jay Allison hope to create a picture of the American spirit in all its rich complexity. Visit: http://www.npr.org/thisibelieve/about.html

StoryCorps’ mission is to honor and celebrate one another’s lives through listening. Since 2003, over 35,000 everyday people have shared life stories with family and friends in our StoryBooths. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to share, and is preserved at the Library of Congress. Millions listen to their broadcasts on public radio and the web. StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind. Visit: http://www.storycorps.net/

Theme: INTROSPECTION

If you have been reading my e-newsletter and/or articles for awhile, you know that four times a year I reflect on the months just past and plan goals for the upcoming months. Before proceeding, however, I have been involved with some serious INTROSPECTION (reflective looking inward; examination of one’s own thoughts and feelings). Why?

Because the better we know ourselves, the more we will be able to chart our course. I also believe in using tools and studies by others to help me you with INTROSPECTION, so in this section, I am going to share some of the best and most interesting tools I have found.

First, I suggest buying the book or tape, “NOW, Discover Your Strengths,” by Marcus Buckingham & Donald O. Clifton, Ph.D. Their premise is that we all focus on trying to correct our weaknesses rather than using our strengths to become exceptional. They provide on-line a strengths finder tool that will pinpoint your five themes (talents) so you can work on enhancing strengths.

I have also found the Enneagram studies to be quite revealing. You may take their test at http://www.enneagraminstitute.com for only $10. I will be interested to hear from those of you who try these tools.

“We forge gradually our greatest instrument for understanding the world – INTROSPECTION. We discover that humanity may resemble us very considerably – that the best way of knowing the inwardness of our neighbors is to know ourselves.” – Walter Lippmann

Hi Chris,

Thanks so much for all the information you sent me. I had to make a presentation last week and I used many of the tools & techniques in your material. The feedback from the session has been fantastic. I was much more confident in my approach to the session as well.

Thanks so much.
