AdSense Alternatives

Do you have a site that displays AdSense ads? If so, are you happy with the amount of money you are making from AdSense?

If you are like most people your answer is a resounding “NO – I am not making enough money from AdSense!”

Important Note: Most sites should not display AdSense ads at all if they want to earn maximum revenues. If you want to know more about which sites profit from AdSense (and which sites should avoid it like the plague) please read last week’s article entitled “Does AdSense Still Make Sense?” You can read it on my blog at http://www.charliepageblog.com

So, you know that you want to display AdSense type ads, but also want to make the most money possible with contextual advertising. The question for you now is this: is AdSense the best alternative?

For my many, the answer is a resounding no.

While Google AdSense can be the right choice (to be sure AdSense can be hugely profitable) today there are alternatives worth considering.

Let’s take a look at three good alternatives to AdSense for sites that want to display contextual advertising.

Option 1 – Clickbank text ads

There are a number of products on the market that will display text ads that look and feel just like AdSense ads but are based completely on the products found in the Clickbank marketplace.

With over 11,000 digital products offered, Clickbank has products that fit almost any niche site and are products that people like to buy. Best of all, you earn huge commissions when these products are purchased, especially when compared to the pennies that AdSense and their competitors pay.

If you choose to use one of these products to display text ads based on Clickbank products instead of AdSense you must know that you are no longer getting paid for clicks, but rather only when someone buys a product. For my money, that’s a good bet. But be careful to weigh the options and decide what works best for you.

Option 2 – Private Affiliate Networks

There is no doubt that displaying contextual ads can be wildly profitable. This is why so many private contextual ad networks are being born. Everyone wants a piece of this pie.

These private networks work much as Google does in the respect that they provide you with the HTML code to add to your web page, offer some tracking and reporting features, and provide all the behind-the-scenes programming.

Where they are different is in the products you are offering visitors. These products come from an array of companies that the private ad network works with. In some cases you can choose the type of products you want to offer, although the nature of contextual ads is that the ads are chosen by the ad network based on the content of the page the ads are on – hence the name contextual advertising.

If you want to display ads on your pages be sure to consider these private networks as an alternative.

Option 3 – Yahoo and Other Major Search Engines

Never shy to compete with the mighty Google, Yahoo and others are flexing their marketing muscle and competing head to head with AdSense.

In almost every way, these programs are the same as AdSense, although some pay more. As with most marketing situations, when major competitors arise they are forced to offer advantages to customers in order to win business. For that reason alone, you should seriously consider other major search engine contextual ads.

Is displaying contextual ads right for you? Will it be profitable enough to justify having a visitor leave your site? If you do display contextual ads, are you making as much as you should?

Make no mistake; these are very important questions today. Getting the answers right can mean the difference between earning an easy income from your site and struggling to discover what is going wrong.

My suggestion is this – if you are doing well online now and want to experiment with contextual ads by all means do so. Set up a blog and post often, displaying contextual ads along the way. See what happens in a few months and change direction on what you learn.

But if you are a person who wants to make money online but are not yet making anything approaching a full time income, my suggestion would be to master the skills of affiliate marketing or creating your own product. While the siren song of contextual advertising is hard to resist, the fact is that making money with these programs is time consuming and much harder than the gurus would have us believe.

No matter what path you choose, I wish you well and hope this information has been helpful to you.
