Finding Affiliates Through Affiliate Directories
Webmasters and web site owners certainly have no shortage of choices when it comes to finding affiliate partners. There are a great many affiliate directories out there, each providing a searchable database to help web site owners find the affiliate programs that are best suited for their sites.
All of these directories will consider affiliate programs for a free listing in the database. Being chosen by the owner of an affiliate directory can give your program a big boost, and help you land some of the big fish in the affiliate world. If the directory editors goes further and highlights your affiliate program in his or her newsletter, you will enjoy an even greater level of publicity.
Since there are so many affiliate directories out there (at last count there were almost 40), it is important to get your affiliate program listed in as many of them as possible. After all, if merchants can’t find you, they can’t partner with you, and you will miss out on some big commission checks.
As affiliate programs become increasingly popular, affiliate directories are becoming more and more selective when it comes to which programs quality to be listed in their directories. Therefore, it is important to present your program in the best manner and to submit it properly.
Each affiliate directory has its own submission guidelines, but in most cases they do not accept web sites that:
– Have adult themes or feature pornography
– Promote or discuss multi-level marketing (also known as pyramid schemes)
– Gambling sites (gambling sites are not forbidden in all directories, but some restrict or do not accept such sites)
In most cases, your submission will be reviewed by the editors of the directory before being included in the directory. When waiting for an answer, remember that the editors may be very busy, and it may take some time to receive an approval or rejection notice. It is also important to read the directory’s submission guidelines. If you don’t follow them you are wasting your time and that of the editor.
There are some important tips to follow to boost your chances of getting approved. They include:
– Make sure your program is ready for prime time. Make sure your affiliate sign up form is up and running, that your tracking system is logging click throguhs and sales and that all graphics are displaying properly.
– Make an affiliate information page. Both the affiliate directories and the affiliates themselves must have ready access to details about your program.
– Do your research. It is important to visit a few affiliate directories before you start. Take a look and see how they are set up and what they seem to want, then create your program with these needs in mind.
– Prepare your submission carefully. It is a good idea to write out exactly what you want to submit. Write your program description carefully. Most directories limit this description to 255 words, so be sure to make those words count.
– After you have submitted your data to one or more affiliate directories, try to patiently wait for their response. It is easy to get anxious, but remember that the editors are very busy. If you have not received an answer after a few weeks, however, be sure to follow up.
