65% of Americans opposed government monitoring of search behavior and 30% supported it. Google has refused to comply with the governement’s order to turn over records of searches conducted by users and 50% agree with Google’s stand, according to Center for Survey Research and Analysis Poll.

The Center for Survey Research and Analysis, CSRA has conducted a poll at at the University of Connecticut.

Other findings of the survey include:

60% oppose companies permanently storing the search behavior of their customers.

71% use search engines at least once a week.

39% use search engines at least once daily.

23% use search engines more than once a day.

Samuel Best, Director of the Center for Survey Research and Analysis, said: “The public appears none to happy about the manner in which their Internet search queries are treated. They strongly oppose both companies permanently storing their search behaviors and the government monitoring them”. [source]
