26% of internet users in the US received opt-in commercial emails via yahoo, according to the results of a poll by Lyris. 21% received via Hotmail and 13% via AOL.

8% of US internet users received opt-in commercial emails via their work email accounts.

David Dabbah, Director of Sales and Marketing, at Lyris, said: “What’s most interesting about these results is that fewer American consumers are using work email accounts as the delivery vehicle for opt-in commercial emails. This trend could be driven by factors such as rapid adoption of high-speed internet access at home and increasing consumer comfort in managing multiple email accounts, each serving a different purpose.” [Source]

The poll also revealed that 30% of US internet users had only one email account. 37% users had two accounts, 19% had three accounts and 13% had four or more email accounts.

David Dabbah said: “Although the spam problem has improved significantly, staying on top of the latest compliance rules from the top ISPs will continue to be a major priority for legitimate email marketers in 2006. Email marketers should also actively support the latest industry efforts to develop and adopt email authentication standards.” [Source]

The poll results were based on 126 responses based on age, gender, and income.
