Malicious Code Threats have increased from 74% to 80%. Cyber attacks are increasingly being designed to silently steal data for profit without the knowledge of the victims, according to Symantec Internet Security Threat Report.

According to the report there is a significant difference between the past and present attacks.

In the past attacks hackers destroyed data.

In the present attacks victims of attacks do not even realize they have been attacked. Hackers silently steal their personal data for profit.

Arthur Wong, vice president, Symantec Security Response and Managed Security Services, said: “Cybercrime represents today’s greatest threat to consumers’ digital lifestyle and to online businesses in general. the growing trend of attackers using bot networks, targeted attacks on Web applications and Web browsers, and modular malicious code.
