87% of consumers prefer to read online news for free and they do not mind the pop-up and banner advertisements, according to a survey commissioned by VitalStream. 37% have purchased a product or service because of Internet ads on news sites.
Zoomerang conducted the survey for VitalStream and studied 740 Internet surfers, in November 2005.
The findings of the survey include:
87% of respondents don’t mind banner, Flash and pop-up ads appearing on their screens if it means online content doesn’t come with a price.
Ads are actually quite effective, with over one-third, or 37 percent, of respondents admitting that they have purchased a product or service online because of an Internet ad.
Paul A. Palumbo, research director with AccuStream iMedia Research, said: “As the broadband-connected public spends more time consuming multimedia via the Internet, and publishers react by making more content available, advertisers and advertising dollars are naturally flowing in that direction too”.
