Alexa Internet, a subsidiary of Amazon, has launched Alexa Top Sites on the Amazon Web Services website. The Alexa Top Sites service provides software and web developers with access to lists of websites ordered by Alexa Traffic Rankings.

The Alexa Top Sites service provides sofrware and web developers with access to lists of websites ordered by Alexa Traffic Rankings.

Geoff Mack, Product Manager of Alexa, said: “Alexa is constantly looking at the enormous amount of information we collect about the web to find sets of data that we believe will help developers build products for the customers they already have or want to have in the future.

The new Alexa Top Sites web service is the latest result of this effort. Developers can now build web applications and products using one of the world’s most credible samples of web usage.” [Source]

Alexa Top Sites allows developers to programmatically request and incorporate Alexa Traffic Rankings into their applications. The service also provides information on each site’s number of page views per million users, average page views per user and the number of Alexa users.

Alexa’s Traffic Rankings is based on the usage patterns of Alexa Toolbar users.

Developers will be charged $0.0025 per website URL they request and receive from the web service.
