A research by Umbria Communications has revealed that 2.7 million out of 20.3 million blogs are spam. Almost 10-20% of all blogs are spam.

The research was conducted in October on blog search engines: Technorati, IceRocket and BlogPulse.

The results showed that from the top 100 search results, 44 were spam.

Howard Kaushansky, CEO of Umbria, said, “Splogs could become a detractor to people using, enjoying and finding value in the blogosphere.” [Source]

Spam blogs are sites that are created for the sole purpose of marketing. Their content are taken through RSS to trigger ads based on keywords from contextual ad programs.
