Google Chief Evangelist Vinton G. Cerf will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom on November 9. Cerf gets the award for digital revolution that “has transformed global commerce”.


Google Chief Evangelist Vinton G. Cerf will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom for designing the software code that is used to transmit data over the Internet. President Bush will honor him at a White House ceremony on Wednesday, November 9, 2005.

The Whitehouse Announcement: “Dr. Cerf and Dr. Kahn have been at the forefront of a digital revolution that has transformed global commerce, communication, and entertainment.” [source]

The Google Blog Announcement: “The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award given in the United States, and our own Vint Cerf has been recognized with this honor. He and Robert Kahn will be recognized in a White House ceremony next Wednesday.” [source]

Vinton G. Cerf is known as the father of the internet. He joined Google as the vice president and Chief Internet Evangelist. Vinton and Robert Kahn have already won an award in 1997. President Clinton awarded the U.S. National Medal of Technology to them.
