San Francisco Chronicle has reported on the three day event, Web 2.0, sponsored by O’Reilly Media, Inc. and MediaLive International. The event was held in San Francisco.
According to the Chronicle, “Internet industry luminaries and those who aspire to join their ranks gathered in San Francisco on Wednesday for the start of one of the Bay Area’s most influential technology conferences”.
The speakers at Web 2.0 include:
Terry Semel, chief executive of Yahoo
Pierre Omidyar, eBay’s founder
Barry Diller, chief executive of InterActiveCorp.
Diller’s company owns the search engine Ask Jeeves. Diller in his commentary said that Google Inc.’s absolute dominance in search would not last.
Diller asked, “Is it going to have a 35 to 50 percent share (of the search engine market) over time? Sure. Anything is possible. But it’s unlikely over time”.
According to Chronicle, the conference, at the Argent Hotel, is also a platform for company announcements such as acquisitions and a launching pad for start-ups.
The 13 companies who introduced their products include:
Rollyo, which allows users to search only those Web sites they trust
Flock, which has a new Web browser built on top of the Firefox open source browser
KnowNow, which offers users instant notification of changes in online content, including news feeds.
