Many misguided marketers think that the number of backlinks to their site is what determines its ranking in the search engine results. But search engines are smarter than that. They weigh backlinks; they don’t just count them. So: • Backlinks from related sites count for more than backlinks from random sites. • Backlinks from high-ranking sites count for more than backlinks from low-ranking sites. • Backlinks with the same anchor text count for less (not more) than backlinks with a variety of anchor text.
