The Drum contributor John Glenday has reported that Facebook has announced legal action against a firm over fake Instagram likes, views and followers.

Glenday says, “In a blog post confirming court action Jessica Romero, director of platform enforcement and litigation at Facebook, wrote: “By filing the lawsuit, we are sending a message that this kind of fraudulent activity is not tolerated on our services, and we will act to protect the integrity of our platform.”

Facebook green lit the legal action only as a last resort after repeated warnings to the defendants went unheeded.

The social network is in process of combating the scourge of fake news as part of efforts to curtail a content free for all which has stoked the wrath of politicians around the globe, including threats to ban like functionality for children”.
