Karissa Bell says, “If you were hoping to get more followers on Telegram or Snapchat from your Instagram profile, you may be out of luck.

The photo sharing app recently began cracking down on certain types of links in users’ profiles, including those that link back to Telegram and Snapchat accounts. The move only affects links that allow people to directly add followers on outside networks, not all links to those services.

An Instagram spokesperson confirmed the change to Mashable saying in a statement that the types of links it is blocking represent a “rare” use case.

We’ve removed the ability to include ‘add me’ links on Instagram profile pages. This was a rare use-case, and not the way our platform was intended to be used. Other types of links are still allowed.

The change was first spotted by Telegram, the messaging app whose links were also recently blocked by Facebook-owned WhatsApp”.
