The First Step of The New Web Publisher

Your First Step

This web publishing business is too attractive, you want to try, right?

OK! You would imagine whether Kelvin Hui can offer you a sure-fire guide to you?

My answer is “Yes” and “No”.

For this web publishing, it can be an art or science. Before you want to build your own “MySpace” or “YouTube”, I suggest you to learn how to walk.

1. Be comfortable to build a website

It’s the most difficult part in the whole experience. Not many webmasters really like to build the websites. They don’t like what they are doing.

I think you have similar experience. You are not comfortable when you solve a “new problem” and handle a “new task”. Compared to the old task, you are quite confident because of “adaptatoin”.

It’s like you move to another country. You adapt the new culture, food and living style.

Similar to website building, you adapt the new process ever in your life. During the start, maybe you don’t like the programming code, complicated web functions, control the server…etc, and even you don’t like to write anything on the website.

It’s normal. Very normal. It’s because you are adapting a new living environment. You live with the website.

To make sure you can adapt the process easily, I suggest you to….

2. Start from Small

There is no special skill required to build a website. I mean a small website. If you needed “Amazon-like” website, definitely you will face a lot of technical problems.

Starting from small, it doesn’t mean your ability is not ok to afford it. Indeed, it is a process to adapt the new living style – living with your website (like your baby).

When the young teens and even your children can build a site by using Xanga, Blogger, Myspace…why you can say you “cannot”?

Using such services are free. No need to pay. You do what you like. What we want is to “adapt” the process.

OK! I can join this free service and get an account easily, then what should I do with that site?

3. Write What You Like

Only write what you are interested. Definitely you can make video and share the photo, it is fine. The writing process is to share what you know, you have and you like.

If you are not interested in that subject, basically you cannot write anything. Everyone is unique. I believe they have their own strength. You don’t need to do any market research.

Just write what you like. Remember that our goal is to “adapt” the process.

A website is used to build connection. Without visitors, your website is not meaningful…so…

4. Find Your Audience

You want someone read your blog/site, post comment and return to see you every day.

The best method is to join the blog/site community like MyBlogLog.com and let the other people know you are around them.

To build connection with new friend, it is good to check another blog and leave comment.

Always remember that – a website is for communication, interaction and building relationship.

The no. of the visitors on your website depends on how you put effort to develop relationship.
