Google is going to introduce Click-to-Call Beta. Click-to-Call service offers the facility for customers to call the advertisers directly.

Customers click on a phone icon in the search result. This takes them to a page where they have to fill in their phone number. Once they fill in the information a “Connect for Free” icon appears. When the customers click on this, Google places a call with the advertiser and the customers are able to speak to the advertiser directly.

There is no charge to the customers for this service. Google pays for the calls. If the customers supply a mobile phone number, Google charges the customers for the airtime.

The FAQ page on Click-to-Call says “Google does not share your telephone number with anyone (without your consent), including the advertiser. When you’re connected with the advertiser, your number is blocked. The advertiser can’t see your phone number.” [Source]

Google assures that it will not display the customers’ telephone numbers and the advertisers will not be able to see it. But customers will be able to see the advertisers’ phone numbers on the caller ID and store it for future use.
