Answers.com and Wikipedia have announced a partnership to feature one-click access to the encyclopedia. They will share the ad revenues.

Answers Corporation, creators of Answers.com, the answer-based search engine, and The Wikimedia Foundation have announced a partnership to feature one-click access to Wikipedia, the free-content, user-edited encyclopedia. They will share the ad revenues.

The agreement is expected to be launched by the beginning of 2006. There will be a 60-day mutual trial period.

Answers will create 1-Click Answers, Wikipedia Edition, from which advertising revenues will be split with The Wikimedia Foundation.

Wikipedia will create a Tools page on its English-language site.

Bob Rosenschein, Answers’ founder and CEO, said, “We are delighted to partner with Wikipedia. We are big supporters and sponsored the Wikimania Conference in Frankfurt this summer.

Wikipedia is certainly the most dynamic of over 120 content sources found in Answers.com. Now we will not simply be using Wikipedia’s remarkable content, but also helping promote its goals and vision”. [source]

Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia founder and Wikimedia Foundation President, said, “We are pleased to partner with Answers.com, encouraging software that improves access to Wikipedia.

Bob Rosenschein and his team have created an innovative technology which helps users click on any word in any application to look it up in Wikipedia. We expect that our users will appreciate the extra convenience.” [source]
