The Neilson/NetRatings figures: Traffic has increased 289 percent for Wikipedia and 205 percent for Yahoo Education.


Nielsen/NetRatings figures have revealed that Wikipedia had about 12.8 million visitors in september this year. There was a 289 percent increase in the use of Wikipedia compared to last year.

The study has also reported that Yahoo Education had close to 3.3 million visitors in september and a 205 percent increase in visitors compared to last year.

The first five fastest growing sites accroding to Nielson/NetRatings are: Wikipedia, 289%, Yahoo Education, 205%, eHub, 97%, CollegeBoard and City-Data, 58%.

Over 46 million people, 22% higher than last year, visited educational reference sites. This means that more than 3 out of 10 people who surf the net have used the educational sites.

Over 50 percent of the visitors to educational reference sites were above 35 years of age and were college educated.

Gerry Davidson, an analyst of Nielson/NetRatings said “College-educated adults, on average, are savvier about and more engaged with the internet and its wide range of capabilities through leisure or work”. [Source]
