James Burt’s latest ‘e-Wealth Daily’ article:

Food for Thought and for Profit

It was Sunday night. The bet was on, and it was a tough one at that. My good friend and former school chum was sitting in the center of a large table in a local wing joint surrounded by friends. His challenge: to eat 60 chicken wings in 60 minutes.

A walk in the park, right?

You have to understand my friend. He’s putting on the years, but still has the metabolism of a 15-year-old teenager. Even after a four-course dinner, he would be looking for the local Golden Arches an hour later. It doesn’t matter what the food is — meat, broccoli, food cooked in fat. As long as it has some calories, he’ll eat it and enjoy it.

My friend is one of those lucky types who can eat and digest just about anything. But, to be serious for a minute, nutrition was never such a hot topic, let alone an info marketing topic, until recently. Over the last 10 years, terms like “obesity,””over eating,” or even “macrobiotic diet” have become more common in the media than ever before. People are really watching what they put into their bodies for sustenance. My bud might not care so much, but others have a greater concern.

Nutrition and how to eat properly can be one of those info marketing topics that are just plain necessary. Like info on cars or tax matters, nutrition is one of those concerns that people pretty much need news on. That said, when people mention they are cooks, nutritionists, or are up on matters of food, I can only recommend that they consider creating an info marketing business based around that knowledge. Clothes, music, cars…these things can go in and out of fashion. Food and nutrition don’t.

As you can imagine, there are loads of potentially lucrative info marketing topics regarding nutrition. Here’s a short list:

— Better eating and weight control: I deliberately avoided using terms like “diet” and “weight loss” here. A lot of info on that stuff is kind of a fad that doesn’t often produce results for those who want to really control their weight and stay slim. The best information a nutrition info marketer can provide is more along the lines of how one should develop good eating habits, how to cook nutritious food, and how to maintain a healthy consumption lifestyle. Maybe you’ve battled weight problems or studied nutrition in school. Both are great sources for regular info newsletters or books on how others can eat right and look great.

— Sports diets: In high school, you might have played sports. You might also have indulged yourself in loads of cheeseburgers and French fries. Coming from a small town, it wasn’t uncommon for my coaches to spot my buddies and me at patios around town eating junk food when we should have been eating carrots and fruit. It probably broke their hearts. The truth is that good diet really is essential if you play sports or work out on a regular basis. There are both good and bad supplements to take, food that gives you the energy you want, and even some treats you can actually indulge in once in a while. It’s its own industry and it changes regularly. If you know about it, start providing info on it. The other guys at the gyms will both pay and appreciate it.

— Eating out: If you saw the documentary “Super-Size Me” a few years back, you might have been shocked at the fact that there were so many health problems associated with the fast food industry. It reminded us all though that eating in fine restaurants, at roadside stands, and in fast food places plays a big role in our lives. People like to eat out. But which is really better: a “Big Mac” or real New Orleans gumbo? How often is it okay to eat out? What are vegetarian places offering as satisfying alternatives? When you think about it, there are loads of areas of information on what kind of leisure eating is good and which isn’t. Any info on this is popular with the public. Like to eat out? Get cracking on some info about it.

— Alternative diets: Related to the topics above, there is a wealth of info these days about people who are radically changing their eating traditions. Roast beef and potatoes are becoming tofu or organic diets. Vegetarian and vegan diets are becoming more commonplace. These aren’t fads either. People are really concerned about their health and see these newer diets and viable lifestyle options. If you are in on this, you could market your knowledge to the rest of the consuming public. When it comes to food, people almost have to know what is available to them.

When it comes to food, everyone’s a fan. But real nutrition is a complex topic. People are often in the dark about it and often make bad food mistakes simply due to lack of good information. If you’ve got that good information, get it out there. It’s something others will consume and reward you for in the end.
