The Info Marketer Who Helps Local Artists
As I’m writing this, there are drums are banging outside.
Every year at this time, my neighborhood hosts an arts festival. This event is a great way to see the artistic talent right in my neighborhood. Crazy, creative, and fun — it’s all involved in the
neighborhood right here.
There’s a real good chance you have similar creativity right outside of your front door. Maybe you are involved in it yourself. Photography, musical performance, community theater, painting, poetry, sculpture…most areas have some sort of creative venture and/or group that allow people to dig into their artistic interests.
Yet, sometimes, creative types need more. Some artistic endeavors need personal spaces, equipment, resources, and a whole other network of information to help them pursue their
particular artistic venture. In short, they need information. If you are artistic at heart, you stand a very good chance of marketing what you know to those with the same artistic interests.
Information marketing in the artistic arena has loads of topics to create information content about, but there are some that can really be helpful to everyone who wants to get more involved
in their particular artistic avenue. Here they are:
— Home studio construction: I’ve devoted a recent article to this, but I think it’s worth reiterating here. The fact that people have their own homes and spaces can allow them an area to indulge in their personal interests. With the advancement of technology and home computer use for editing, recording, and manipulation, people have given the power to do what was
once only for industry pros. But putting together a studio is hard. How much floor space do you need? Must you sound-proof it? If you are recording music, do you need compressors
or outboard gear? Can you create a photo lab, either digital or with an old-school dark room, right in your own basement? All of this needs real information from someone with knowledge
who can provide it regularly.
— Cheap gear: If you’ve ever wanted that new digital camera with a telephoto lens, a new easel and acrylic paint set, or even a table saw for woodworking, you know how much this stuff
costs: a lot. Creative folks are often are limited to what they can pursue by the size of their wallets. They want to do more, but can’t afford to do so. Hence needing to know where you
can acquire the materials you need at decent prices — from warehouses, wholesale places, or someone who is a cheap supplier. This info is gold for info marketers to provide to others just like them.
— Installation/galleries: You do great work and you want to show it to the rest of the world. But you have to pay for space, get people to come, and, in the most gut-wrenching way, maybe have to put up with critical folk who want some sort of show to really understand your work. I managed to talk to an art gallery owner who put it on a local street festival. He and others like him have found ways to exhibit different work in the public sphere, how to get the cash to do it, and how to show the work in the most exciting way possible. This kind of info is another gold mine. People who want to show off their best need the best info on how to go about it. Perhaps you could help with that.
— Marketing your work: There might be a side of you that wants to see if there is a possibility of marketing your creative material, even on the smallest scale. The thing is that you can,
but you need connections. There are agents and professionals who are potentially interested to see what you are writing, painting, or filming. A good regular info newsletter or annual
info book by someone who is hip to these folks is invaluable to those who are interested in getting professionally serious with their artistic talents. Again, it might be you.
They say that all modern art is schlock, and that the great creative movements are behind us. I can’t agree, and I don’t think you can either. If you have creative impulses, you can show the rest of the world what great creative material is there while helping those like you and becoming successful all in one swoop. That’s an art in and of itself.
