Four Ways to Turn Downtime into Profits

Being an info marketer, you are constantly taking in ideas, concepts and, most importantly, information. It’s the food for your mind and eventually the stuff that generates your revenue.

But do you ever take a break? Is it possible to just sit down and shut your mind off? Or are you just a constant information sponge and, if you quit, you lose something pertinent to your
business?

Well, yes and no. You should take a holiday once in a while and do nothing in order to let your mind relax. But when it comes to holidays, periods of business quietness, or any other
downtime, it’s good to use your time effectively. You are going to need fresh ideas and fresh information, and, while the work you’ve been doing behind the desk has been great, you’re going
to need to keep it so. Your information sources need to be refreshed. Thus, downtime becomes very important to utilize.

Once you decide not to go off on holidays during your downtime, there are lots of options you have to help you recharge your information marketing business. Here are a few that I recommend:

— Relevant Contract/Part-time Job: You often hear stories from the movies about certain Method-type actors who get a part and actually acquire the job of the character they are playing in order to understand the part better. It’s not a bad idea and one that I’ve done from time to time myself. I often go and check out writing and content postings online, and, when a contract
comes in, I work hard to complete it. But I also take some mental notes as to what I’m writing about and if there is some way I can incorporate what I’m working on into information marketing. You can do the same. If you are a food-related info marketer and a part-time job cooking at a short order restaurant comes up, take it. If you are an automotive info marketer, see if you can’t work alongside mechanics. A lot of industry pros don’t mind giving you a small job if you want to learn something and are happy to pass along tips to you in the process.

— Volunteer: Related to the above, volunteering is a good way to get new info, too. You might not get paid, but the experience you acquire will pay for itself in the long run through your info
marketing business. When you go to volunteer, look for a hands-on position that will put you on your feet in whatever info area you create content about. If you are an art or entertainment person, film and music festivals always need volunteers. If you are a travel person, a volunteer position abroad in a charity organization is unbeatable for information ideas. Volunteering can be an easy way to get information, make friends and contacts, and get involved in something that
you are interested in all at once.

— Take a Course: This one is a no-brainer. There’re a lot of part-time courses out there that can benefit your business. Again, if you are going to take an educational course to help your information marketing business, take something that is hands-on and can give you firsthand experience with what your information is about. Computer-based info marketers might consider new software classes or business folks might consider some sort of certification from an industry pro that will give them the most cutting edge info available. It might help you to do your course online, as many great courses are offered online and you can do them right from your home office.

— Hit the Books: Tired? Worn out from working? Don’t feel like traveling, studying, or working on the downtime? That’s alright. But what you might want to do is grab your library card and head for your local library. You can leisurely go through the stacks, take notes from sources, or even check out some film or audio info sources that might be useful to your information marketing business. It’s similar to doing research for school, but you can work at your own speed on a topic you love. And it’s free…what could be better?

For a lot of entrepreneurs, downtime means a time of depression and self-criticism. But every sort of professional goes through downtime. The trick is to utilize your downtime effectively. For info marketers, this time can be a fun and exciting way to keep their ball of info success rolling.
