An opportunity is waiting around every corner; you just need to recognize the potential. Let me explain:

With summer weather here, I decided that I should put a few new plants in and around my home. There is a massive gardening store on the outskirts of my neighborhood, so I headed over to pick up a few items.

It seems I wasn’t the only one with this exact same plan in mind. When I arrived in front of the store, the limited parking was completely full. They even had a store employee helping to direct traffic along an adjacent street.

I followed this employee’s instructions and found myself parking along a quiet residential street; then I walked back up to the store. I made my purchases and, while I was loading the trunk of my car, I heard a strange sound.

It was rushing water, like there was a small pond or stream nearby. Turns out, there was a small pond, in the front yard of one of the homes. And beside that pond was a small waterfall running over meticulously placed rocks.

Now, turning your front lawn into a pond may not seem like seizing an opportunity, but it all became clear when I noticed a sign and a truck parked in the driveway.

Both the sign and the truck were advertising a business that installs waterfalls and ponds in people’s yards. Knowing that the local gardening center is always busy and that their overflow of traffic would end up on this street, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that this front yard installation had brought in a good chunk of change for the owner of that business.

These business owners certainly have utilized an advertising medium that would most likely be overlooked. It’s a fantastic way to make money from your business without having to shell out big bucks for advertising.

That’s why it is important to always consider your surroundings: odds are that there are hidden opportunities around every corner…you just have to learn how to see them.
