‘Easy Fixes to Improve Your Adsense Click-Thru Rates’
It doesn’t take Adsense Publishers long to discover that the higher their click thru rates the more revenue they will generate. As an Adsense Publisher one of your main goals should be to try to improve your CTR. I would like to mention a few strategies that you can implement today to start generating higher click thrus on the adsense ads displayed on your site.
The very first thing you have to determine is your current CTR. We have to have a baseline. In order to find your current CTR you need to divide your total number of click thrus by the total number of views. For example, If your adsense ads are clicked ten times today and you had 1000 adsense ad impressions, your CTR would be 1%. You will want to record this somewhere for future comparison. Remember, this is a baseline.
The next item we want to test is our website itself. We want to determine which keywords are being used most often on our site. There is a free tool available to help us with this task over at http://www.seobook.com/ . We will also be able to see how the keywords are being ranked in Google. Why is this important? Well, Google is making the determination about which ads will appear on your website based on your keyword content. By simply modifying some of your content you could start to receive more ads that will hold a wider appeal for the visitors to your website and this will usually lead to a higher CTR. How often should your keywords appear? I think you are safe if your keywords appear anywhere from 1 to 3 times 100 words of content on your page.
If you remember nothing else after reading this article remember this. Content, Content, Content! Pay very close attention to the content on your website. Your content should be of very high quality and contain your most relevant keywords. Your website content will do two things for you. Number one, your content drives that placement of Adsense ads on your site. Number two, your content will drive the traffic to your website. Both of these cannot be underestimated when trying to improve your CTRs.
I cannot stress this enough. Without high quality content on your site and solid keyword frequency, your viewers will not be directed to your website via the search engines. By achieving good keyword occurrence results you will achieve a higher search engine ranking for your most relevant keywords and better search engine positions will almost always translate into more traffic/visitors. If you are frequently updating your content with interesting, well-written material you will also start to see a higher percentage of return visitors to your site. If you implement these changes yourself and are still not seeing the traffic or CTR that you desire, then may want to hire a content writer that has SEO experience to help improve both your traffic and your CTR.
Look at your site. Which Adsense ads are on top? Would you click them if you were a visitor? Positioning of the ads definitely affects your CTR. Ideally, you want to place your ads near the top of your page and near the left edge of your page. This little change should result in more clicks on your Adsense ads. As I’ve mentioned before don’t underestimate the use of white space around your ads. White space around your ads has proven to increase CTR. Don’t just cram your adsense ads in a corner of your site and hope they receive clicks. Think “Top, Left, White space” when selecting the placement of ads on your site.
I think you also will find that your ads will receive a higher CTR if you can blend them in with your surrounding content. You can alter that size, color, and shape of your ads to fit in with the overall appearance and them of your website. Do it! Remove the borders, change the shape of the ads, use your color scheme to enhance the appeal of the ads Google is placing on your site.
You have a very short time to get your visitor to do something on your site. If you want them to click on an adsense ad, sign up for your newsletter, and buy a product your are promoting all in the same visit it’s probably not going to happen. Minimize the number of choices that your visitor can make on your web pages. This isn’t a buffet. Too many links are a distraction which means the odds are high that your visitor may do something other than clicking on the Adsense ads. Limit your content to a single article per page, a simple navigation bar, and the adsense ad package. Your viewers will appreciate your crisp clean look and are more likely to take the option you want them to take when they aren’t given many choices.
Keep in mind that increasing your traffic, improving your content and keyword ratio, and paying close attention to the placement and appearance of your ads are simple fixes that you can make today and start improving your click-thrus on the Adsense ads served on your website.
