Searchme, a new search company backed by Sequoia Capital, has launched ‘Wikiseek’, a search engine to search across Wikipedia.

Wikiseek will donate its search revenue to the Wikimedia Foundation.

Wikiseek utilizes the suggestions of different vertical search engines to deliver relevant search results, according to Searchme.

Wikiseek’s Firefox extension is available under a GPL open source license.

Randy Adams, CEO, Searchme, said: “It just makes sense to donate the majority of the advertising revenue to the Wikimedia Foundation since our search results are enabled by the work done by Wikipedia volunteers, Every time somebody edits a Wikipedia page, our search engine gets better”. [source]

Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, said: “We are grateful for the contributions Searchme is making to the Wikimedia Foundation, I hope Wikiseek’s efforts will lead to improvements in the general quality of search for educational content”. [source]

Wikiseek is available at www.wikiseek.com and inside Wikipedia as a Firefox extension.
