55% of all online American teens ages 12-17 use online social networking sites. 85% of them use MySpace, according to a Pew Internet & American Life Project survey.

The survey involved 935 youths ages 12 to 17.

Pew Internet has provided the following data:

– 48% of teens visit social networking websites daily

– 26% visit once a day, 22% visit several times a day

– 66% of teens’ profile is not visible to all internet users

– 70% of older girls (15-17 years) have used an online social network

– 54% of older boys (15-17 years) have used an online social network

– 91% of all social networking teens use the sites to stay in touch with friends

– 72% of all social networking teens use the sites to make plans with friends

– 66% of teens who have created profiles limit access to their profile pages.
