When Everything Goes Wrong and Messes Up Your Plans
Yes, I plan the topics and by concidence going through this myself right now. Figured that right before the holidays many of us might experience this…
Life will always throw curve balls. A universal law… Life Happens. It usually happens right on our best laid out plans. It’s a question I hear often… coping with unexpected interruptions to a planned schedule and getting way behind and finding it hard to catch up.
Often smaller or minor curve balls can be dealt with just by putting buffers into your schedule. Especially if you follow the Traditional Time Management structure to do your planning. Time management teaches you to cram stuff into your schedule.
Unexpected interruptions can also wreak your schedule when you underestimate how long something to complete. Once again put some buffers in place can reduce the effects and get you back on track quicker.
What about when something major happens… like when my husband Mike ending up in the emergency room and spending 4 days in the hospital. There is no way you can plan illness, emergencies, deaths, computers crashing, network systems going down and other huge impacting events.
They can throw any well planned schedule with buffers right out the window. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a personal or business curve ball, the stress will affect all areas of your life. It’s hard to think clearly under stress and overwhelm.
Calling my support team became a priority after Mike phoned to say the ambulance is taking him to the hospital. My support team in this situation consisted of my awesome coach, best friends and prayer group leaders.
After I got the details of what to expect with my husband, we could make alternative plans.
* What absolutely needed finish by original deadlines?
* What did we need to do to make those deadlines happen?
* What could we do later?
* What could we let go?

Remember only 20% of what you do will really create the biggest impact or make the biggest difference. Often all the “stuff” we think is important and MUST get done really won’t make matter in the long run.
When life decides to throw several curve balls at once, walk away and take breather. The problem will wait for you. Your mind will be clearer and can handle the situation better.
When all else fails, make a margarita and go soak in the Jacuzzi.
