Building the Perfect Paid Membership Web Site

Building a quality web site is well within the skill set of most experienced Internet users, but in order to use the site as a business, it is important to design the site properly, and to take future scalability and growth into account when designing the site.

It is of course possible to pay a professional to design the site for you, but with the right software and a little bit of research, it is possible to design a high quality web site on your own. In addition, owning the software will allow you to quickly make any needed updates or revisions, without having to pay a professional web designer.

When choosing an HTML editing package, it is important to look for a number of important elements, including:

– The ability to quickly check syntax across all the pages of your web site

– The availability of visual help for syntax, including markup options, indentation and coloring options.

– Link checking for all the pages of the web site.

– Spell check and grammar check options for all pages of the web site.

– The ability to quickly repeat edits made on one page on other pages of the web site.

– Easy translation for a number of special characters.

– The ability to quickly provide line numbering and file paths on the site.

There are a number of software packages that can allow even the beginning web designer create a successful paid membership web site. For most people, Microsoft Front Page will be the easiest product to learn and use. Those users who are familiar with other Microsoft products, such as the Microsoft Office suite, will be likely to find Front Page very user friendly and easy to learn.

Dreamweaver is another very popular product among web designers. Dreamweaver is created and distributed by Macromedia, and it is the product of choice for many professional web site developers and web developers. Dreamweaver is favored for being more scalable, more robust and more effective as a tool for building web sites than Front Page.

One important downside of Dreamweaver, however, is that it is more complex and more difficult to use than is Microsoft Front Page. It will take some time to learn how to use Dreamweaver, so it is important to schedule time to learn the software before beginning to build your new site.
Another major downside of Dreamweaver is the price. Macromedia Dreamweaver retails for about $400 (at time of writing), so it is important to build that cost into your startup budget.

There are a number of other web design products on the market, made by a number of software companies such as Adobe. By using those tools, it is possible to create a web site you can be proud of.

The decision of whether to build your paid membership web site yourself or hire a professional to build it for you will depend in large measure on the complexity of your site. If your web site consists of simply a download section and a signup form, you will most likely be able to build the site yourself using a number of web design software tools.

If, however, your site is very complex, including not just a signup form and download section, but a backend database and multiple navigation pages, you may want to farm the job out to an experienced web design firm. Remember that your web site is your storefront on the web, and it is important that you present a professional, polished image to all potential members.
