“On 7th February 1998, Ecademy was founded, by Penny Power, as a network for e-business professionals. Over time it has developed into a social business network with the tagline ‘Connecting Business People’.

As a child, Penny Ross wanted nothing more than to be involved in a caring profession. So, at 18, whilst waiting to go to college she took a temporary job working in a telesales department. She spent three weeks applying lipstick to give her confidence before each call, her lips grew but her confidence reduced. Then one day a poor unsuspecting prospect actually had to talk to her. She apologised for disturbing him, sympathised with the fact that he had a sore throat and said she would ring him another day. At lunchtime, she went to buy a sandwich and saw some cough sweets on the counter. She bought them and sent them to ‘the poor man on the phone’ wishing him a speedy recovery. Three days later he phoned in to place a huge order.

Penny learnt that, if you create the right environment and are a giving person, you can receive, rather than having to ask. From then on, she built her career through her relationships and her attitude of caring for others, whether they were staff , suppliers, customers or colleagues.

Penny will talk about the power of networking and share with you simple networking strategies to get the most value from your networking efforts. She will look at building a network, examine the science and art of the process and examine the role of quality and quantity in creating a successful set of connections”.
