YouTube, an online video sharing website, and Warner Music Group, a music company, have announced a partnership to distribute videos online.

YouTube will distribute the library of music videos from WMG’s artists, artist interviews, original programming and other content. YouTube will allow its users to incorporate music from WMG’s recorded music catalog into their own videos.

YouTube and WMG are going to share revenue from advertising on both WMG music videos and user uploaded videos.

WMG is the first music company to share content via YouTube’s video entertainment service, according to YouTube.

YouTube will bring WMG’s music video library and special artist content with the launch of its content identification and royalty reporting system.

Edgar Bronfman, Jr., Chairman and CEO, Warner Music Group, said: “Consumer-empowering destinations like YouTube have created a two-way dialogue that will transform entertainment and media forever.

As user-generated content becomes more prevalent, this kind of partnership will allow music fans to celebrate the music of their favorite artists, enable artists to reach consumers in new ways, and ensure that copyright holders and artists are fairly compensated”. [source]
