Social Bookmarking Sites, Tag and Ping and the Power of Knowledge
When it comes to using social bookmarking sites and the tag and ping method of marketing, there is no substitute for a solid knowledge of the most popular subjects and the best tags. Fortunately, most of these tagging sites make it quite easy to find out what the most popular subjects are, and this in turn makes it relatively easy to tag content properly and achieve the best results.
For instance, the popular site known as Del.icio.us breaks things down by showing a list of how many people have saved the page, as well as how many people have saved it recently. This is of course vital information to anyone in the business of marketing a web site.
Another great feature of the Del.icio.us web site is that if you click on the link showing how many people have saved the web site link, a list of all those people will appear. From there users can navigate to the bookmarks of those other users, again providing a great deal of relevant and potentially valuable information. Using that information is a great way to target users in a particular niche category, for instance. This type of targeted information can also provide valuable insight into a new niche you may want to target.
Another great feature of the Del.icio.us is the RSS feed feature. On the Del.icio.us site, the RSS feed appears as an orange button. Clicking that button will show the RSS feed for the page of bookmarks. It is possible to subscribe to this RSS feed feature, and even add it to your own site. This feature can instantly provide a list of the site’s most popular topics, and it is easy to see how valuable that information can be from a marketing standpoint.
