The Great Time Management Experiment – Part 1
Every solopreneur knows the value of time management. When you manage your time effectively, you can increase your sales, spend more time with your family, complete those unfinished projects and perhaps get most things off your to do list.
Anybody who markets their business online for awhile soon discovers the power of an ezine and/or publishing articles. But… If you’re time management skills prove lacking, finding the time to create your ezine can remain challenging.
eZine Marketing builds relationships. Relationships increase sales and build a strong business. No wonder ezine marketing is highly recommended part of your marketing strategy. How can you find the time in your already busy schedule to write and publish?
What if you could automatically generate your ezine and deliver it your list just by ONLY putting an article on your site?
Let’s look at what’s involved in publishing an eZine the traditional way … first you need a program to automate it. I use http://www.DivaEmail.com Now, you set up it, create the template, determine your publishing schedule and the topics you want to cover and put the sign-up form on your website.
All of that before you published your first edition. Let’s look at the time commitment to publish your ezine on a consistent basis.
1. Write the Article ““ 1-2 hours
2. Review the Article the next day or several hours later and rewrite ““ 30 minutes ““ 1 hour minutes
3. Get the final draft proofed for spelling and grammar errors ““ 30 minutes
4. Write additional information like tips, recommendations greeting etc. 30-minute
5. Add your article and anything else for your newsletter into the templates. 30 minute
6. Upload your newsletter to DivaEmail.com and test all links, spam meter, layout etc and send out -20 minutes
7. Publish article to website. -20 minutes
Approx. time: 5-6 hours… now depending on your skill levels it can take less or more time. Publishing a weekly ezine means you need to block out 5-6 hours each week. You can pay to outsource every step which would free up some of those 5-6 hours.
Either way you end up “paying” to publish your ezine… either in your time or pay somebody to use their time to do it. Any wonder I get cranky about “freebie and AOL” email addresses signing up.
What does this have to do with the Great Time Management Experiment?
In reality, I write the article and turn it over to my assistant to do the rest. It’s still a time and money commitment.
But… what if I wrote the article then give it Lanita and had her only doing steps 3 and 7, and the newsletter is automatically generated and sent out? Big time and money saver!
Wow… writing your article and putting it on your website and you get instant newsletter… does it get any better? You bet… now imagine that same article getting picked up by various newfeeds without you submitting it. Thus driving more traffic to your site…
All by doing two simple things… writing an article and putting it on your website.
Thus begins the Great Time Management Experiment…
Today… I’m stopping the publication of Focus on Success Journal the traditional way and will see how well the instant ezine method works.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be doing quite a bit of more writing on this site… which just happens to coincide with an experimental marketing technique I’m trying too…
