Fortify Software has warned of threats to web applications. The four major threats, according to Fortify, include Bot Storming, Google Hacking, Directed Attacks, and Global Attack Base.

According to Fortify Software, the four major threats include:

– Bot Storming: Over 50% of attacks on web applications in the past six months were generated by automated probes, bots or bot networks which search for unprotected and unpatched components of web applications.

– Google Hacking: Over 20% of all security breaches in Fortify’s monitoring pool were resulted from hackers accessing website vulnerability information that is stored in search engine indices.

– Directed Attacks: Techniques include cross-site scripting, SQL injection and buffer overflow attacks.

– Global Attack Base: Attack origination points include US, China, Poland, and Australia, signifying a global attack base.
