Fear of identity theft is going to cost Irish online businesses €250 million per year, according to a survey by CA.

Additional findings of the survey include:

– 1.4 million Irish adults use the internet.

– Of these, 250,000 do not transact online.

– One in three adults said they don’t trust online businesses.

– Consumers trust medical institutions and banks to protect their personal details.

– They do not trust online retailers and ISPs.

– One in five consumers believe companies are taking effort to prevent identity theft.

– One in 10 consumers stop a transaction before completing it.
