Microsoft Research has launched the Strider Search Defender project. The project is aimed at automating the discovery of search spammers through non-content analysis.
The Search Defender project integrates technologies from Microsoft Research’s previous prototypes including:
– Strider HoneyMonkey
– Strider URL Tracer
According to Microsoft Research, their approach consists of two steps including:
– Spam Hunter supplies a list of confirmed spam URLs as search terms to search engines and locates the forums that they have spammed.
– Microsoft Research then feeds a list of potential spam URLs to the Strider URL Tracer which provides Top Domain View. The tracer launches a browser to visit the URLs and record secondary URLs that are visited.
