Legitimate email marketing firms should remove outdated hotmail addresses, according to Ferris Research.

Richi Jennings of Ferris Research says if a marketing firm continues to send emails to an outdated address, hotmail will blacklist the IP range of the company.

Also, such emails from the company are more likely to be considered spam, according to Jennings.

Ferris Research revealed that Hotmail accounts expire after 6 months of disuse. Once a company gets a notification from Hotmail that the email address is unavailable, they should remove the address from their mailing list, Ferris Research suggests.

The mail sent to such an address will be rejected with a message, including:

“550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable” [SOURCE]
