The Indian Small and Medium sized Businesses are going to invest $1.2 billion on internet infrastructure and solutions in 2006, according to a report by AMI-Partners.

Key findings of AMI-Partners include:

– The investment would account for almost one sixth of the total IT spending at $7.7 billion in 2006

– The Indian government has adopted “˜Broadband Policy 2004′ to accelerate the growth of broadband services in India

– SMB spending on Internet access will reach $830 million in 2006

– The Indian government is encouraging Multinational Corporations to capture this investment opportunity

– All medium businesses and more than half of PC-using SBs already have access to the Internet

– Seven in ten MBs and 14% of SBs have multiple branches.

Avimanyu Datta, a Kolkata-based analyst at AMI-Partners, said: “The country is fast becoming the destination of business process and knowledge process outsourcing for many global corporations such as GE, Dell, HP, Cap Gemini,

The central government and several state governments are proactively encouraging such initiatives. This will further drive the demand for Internet technologies, particularly ones related to Internet access”. [source]
