eBay.co.uk is going to introduce Skype functionality in its listings to help buyers and sellers communicate with each other.

eBay’s new service will allow the sellers to add Skype functionality with free internet voice calls and instant messaging to their listings in different categories, according to Skype.

eBay sellers will be able to include a “˜Skype Me’ button on the eBay.co.uk listings page. By clicking the “˜Skype Me’ button, the buyers will be able to contact sellers and also use Skype’s services for free.

eBay’s trial programme will start from mid-July 2006. In the beginning eBay will provide Skype functionality in some categories, such as art, antiques, stamps, coins, pottery & glass, sports memorabilia, real estate, baby products, musical instruments, and audio consumer electronics.

Dan Wilson, Community Manager at eBay.co.uk, said: “Getting information about complex items will now be quick and easy. However, for many of the other 15 million eBay.co.uk users, we also think it will help bring together like-minded collectors and enthusiasts, further cementing the community feel for the site”.
