2,881,000 UK People visited sports/gambling websites during the second week of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, according to Nielsen//NetRatings.

Key findings of Nielsen//NetRatings include:

– Sports and gambling websites averaged a unique audience of 2.71 million in the first two weeks of FIFA World Cup

– The gambling audience has a 32% female visitors

– The sports and gambling audience has 71% male visitors

– Gambling visitors average 43 minutes online during the second week

– Sports visitors average 15 minutes online

– Times Sports website received maximum number of visitors.

Alex Burmaster, European Internet Analyst at Nielsen//NetRatings, said: “The World Cup has already had a huge impact on the numbers of people going online to follow it or place a bet.

Over the last six weeks the online sports and gambling audience has increased by almost 50%, indicating what an integral companion the Internet now is to major football events in terms of both content and gambling”. [source]
