42% Americans Have Broadband at Home
42% of American adults have a high speed internet connection at home, according to a report by Pew Internet. 30% of all adults have broadband at home.
42% (84 million) American adults have a high speed internet connection at home as of March 2006, according to a report by Pew Internet. As of March 2005, 60 million American adults had broadband at home.
The report also revealed that 30% of all adults had broadband connection at home.
Additional key findings include:
– Internet penetration has increased from 66% in 2005 to 73% in 2006.
– Nearly 50% of the new internet users subscribed to broadband connection.
– The rate of increase in broadband adoption rose from 20% in 2004 to 40% in 2005.
– Broadband adoption increased 68% among households with $40,000-$50,000 annual income.
– Broadband adoption among African Americans increased 121% in 2006, compared to 2005.
– Bbroadband adoption increased 70% among people with less than a high school education.
– It grew 63% among senior citizens.
– The rate of increase in adoption in rural areas was 39%.
The report also revealed that 50% of all home broadband connections were DSL and 41% were cable modems. 8% of home broadband users (6 million American adults) have wireless broadband connections.
