According to SaveTheInternet.com, the House Judiciary Committee has passed the “Internet Freedom and Nondiscrimination Act of 2006”, a bill in support of Network Neutrality. The bill is yet to become a law. The bill has to be passed by the full house to become a law.
The SavetheInternet.com Coalition is urging people to continue working until the Network Neutrality becomes law.
According to Save The Internet, today’s victory is a significant “milestone” for protecting the freedom of the internet.
“20 members of the Commitee (6 Republicans and 14 Democrats) voted for the bipartisan Bill, and only 13 against.
Today’s vote would have been unthinkable three weeks ago. It shows that the politicians are listening to the vast number of citizens who don’t want the Internet to become the private domain of the cable and telephone monopolies. Today’s vote is a milestone for the fast-growing movement to protect the public interest and defend Internet freedom”. [source]
Save The Internet launched a “petition drive” in April. According to them, 700 groups have joined them and they have support from 750,000 people.
