MessageLabs has announced the 2006 Q1 Intelligence Report. The report provides information on global virus, spam and phishing trends.
The report also provides an analysis of the threat landscape for the first quarter of 2006.
Key findings of the report include:
• Threat levels remained stable with previous months.
• U.S was still the largest source of malware, spam and phishing attacks.
• The U.S hosted 18.1% of the world’s zombie computers in the first quarter.
• The ratio of spam in email traffic globally was 58.5%, a 0.7% increase compared to March 2006.
• The ratio of virus in email traffic globally was 1.5%, a 0.2% decrease compared to March 2006.
• The distribution of adware online is a multi-billion dollar industry.
• The number of botnets being created has increased as a result of adware.
• 18.4% of email traffic targeted Business Support Services, a 4.9% increase compared to March 2006.
