The reason given for this change in behaviour according to eROI report, “Q3’05 eROI Email Statistics by List Size”:

“As we close in on the holidays, consumers are beginning to think more of how they are going to spend their money this holiday season. While we anticipate these stats to start even out more as we come closer to December and through the new year, this behavior shows marketers are getting an early start and secure the consumer awareness and solidify a place in their, um, your, wallet”. For Sundays: 954, 570 emails sent.
read through rate 30.8%
click through rate was 7.2%

For Fridays: 11, 105, 552 emails sent.
read through rate 27%
click through rate 5.3%

Lowest was on Wednesdays.

For Wednesdays: 16,257,590 emails sent.
read through rate 22.8%
click through rate was 3.5%
