Advertisers spent 60% more on banner ads, classifieds and sponsored links online in the year ending Dec 31, 2005.
Martin Hoffman, the chief executive of ninemsn, the joint venture between Microsoft and Publishing & Broadcasting Ltd, said: “This is the third year in a row and all the signs are there that we can expect similar levels of growth in calendar 2006.” [Source]
The report, Online Advertising Expenditure Report 200, revealed that spending on general display advertising, including banners, increased 51% to $194 million in 2005.
Spending on classifieds increased 56.1% to $206 million, and spending on search and directories increased 72.5% to $220 million.
