India will have 100 million internet users by 2007. Indians go online for a number of activities including email and IM, job search, banking, bill payment, stock trading, and matrimonial search, according to Internet & Mobile Association of India Report.


India will have 100 million internet users by 2007, according to Internet & Mobile Association of India Report, IAMAI.

Data released by IAMAI, cite the cost of broadband; ecommerce and the demand for .in domain registrations among the factors for the increase in online users.

Indians go online for a number of activities including,

email and IM 98%
job search 51%
banking 32%
bill payment 18%
stock trading 15%
matrimonial search 15%

The number of Internet users in 2004 were 25 million.
It reached 38.5 million by year-end 2005.
It is expected to reach 100 million by 2007.

IAMAI has also studied the women online users and has reported: “57% of women log in from home……. 78% have been using Internet since the last 3 years and tend to window shop online and are cautious online shoppers. The online population is well poised to grow to 100 million from the current 38.5 million users and percentage of women likely to increase to 40% in the next 2 years”. [source]
